WAVERLEY HOUSE

Johannesburg

The brief was for a bold minimalist home defined by its geometric form and use of alternative materials.  The building was located on the property so as to maximise the garden and sense of space.  The layering of spaces from public to private and the play of heights between more public reception rooms and intimate family spaces heightens this experience.  All living rooms open up onto the garden, focused around retained existing trees.  The aesthetics of the home were enhanced by the use of experimental patterned off shutter concrete as both an internal and external finish.  As the garden becomes more established the building will begin to merge with its surroundings, covered by layers of planting.
