The historic Kloofendal Stamp Mills are artefacts of Johannesburg’s early mining history. The two stamp mills were made in 1884 and shipped to South Africa.  They made their way by ox wagon to the Witwatersrand.  The two mills have been erected in the Kloofendal Nature reserve close to the original mine that they served.  The proposed new roof structure draws inspiration from early mining structures and is designed to carefully frame and protect the mills as historical artefacts and tools for the learning and understanding of the city’s history.
