Carl von Brandis was the first mining commissioner of Johannesburg. He is commemorated through a statue located outside of the South Gauteng High Court located in Johannesburg.  The statue and its surrounds had become a site of urban decay and this proposal looks at means of addressing both this as well as the statures meaning and legacy in a post-apartheid and post-colonial city.
